Turn Old Bookshelves Into A Cabinet
This is one of those projects that I have wanted to do but put off forever. I have had the bookcase for about 12 years and it has been painted several colors over the years. I looked for cheap doors or doors that I could recycle to use but never found any. I decided to drive to Lowes and purchase some lumber. I knew I wanted the doors to have a farmhouse look since I live in a little farmhouse.
I have never made any type doors and I am sure there are better ways to do it than the way I did. I have no idea if you are even supposed to make doors this way…it’s just the way I made mine and it’s an easy way to make them. They open and close and fit together perfectly so I’m good with that.
I made the doors out of 1/4 Oak plywood from Lowes. You could use any wood but they happened to have oak in stock. I measured the size I needed my doors to be and cut the plywood to that size.
I took my cut doors and framed them with molding.
I always draw my cuts on my boards. This helps me to see which way my cut needs to be and makes it easy to line the laser up with my line. (my miter saw has a red laser showing me where my cute will be)
Since I have no carpentry skills, having a compound miters saw makes projects like this easy. Just set your saw to 45 degrees, mark where your cut needs to go and cut. Easy Peesy !
I glued the trim work to my boards and then used my brad nailer to secure them. The center beadboard is paintable wall paper making this a super easy project.
Below is my nail gun/ stapler that I used and the wallpaper I used. These items are inexpensive are work great for doing craft projects and light construction projects.
