HOT FUDGE CAKE (aka. Chocolate Cobbler)
I can’t tell you how good this Hot Fudge Cake taste. The soft moist chocolaty cake with this creamy, delicious fudge sauce. I have seen this cake called Chocolate Cobbler but I always think of cobbler as having a pie-like crust and I just can’t associate this piece of chocolate heaven with a cobbler.
If you follow my blog, you will notice that I make a lot of my cakes & cupcakes using a cake mix and then adding wonderful extras to take it to the next level and make it taste like homemade. In this recipe, everything is made from scratch. I just don’t think you could achieve the same taste using a cake mix. It’s so easy to make and can be easily made by items in your pantry.
Here is what you will need:
CAKE INGREDIENTS
- 3/4 cups sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/8 cup sour cream *
CAKE INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In the bowl using a mixer, combine the ¾ cup of the granulated sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla; mix until smooth.
- Spread the batter into a lightly greased 2-quart dish.
*NOTE: If you don’t have the sour cream, you can leave it out and the cake will turn out fine. The sour cream takes the taste of the cake to the next level so use it if you have any in your fridge.
Once you have you cake batter in the bottom of your dish, it’s time to start making the good stuff – the fudge.
FUDGE SAUCE INGREDIENTS
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup cocoa
- 1¼ cups hot water
FUDGE SAUCE INSTRUCTIONS
- Heat water on the stove or in the microwave until it’s very hot (just under a simmer)
- In a small bowl, stir together the sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa. Mix well.
- Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter in your dish or pan.
- Pour the hot water over the top – but do not stir!
Bake 30 – 35 minutes. Do not over bake !
Remove your dish from the oven and allow it to stand for at least 15 minutes. I know it’s going to be hard but it takes at least 15 minutes for the fudge to set up. Longer if the kitchen is really warm. It will be worth it, I promise !
Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream ( I used toffee ice cream in these photos) if desired and serve immediately.
